Our plan was to cover the distance between Berlin and the Pacific Ocean in Vietnam over a duration of roughly 9 months, on a route of over 20.000km length which crosses over 19 different countries and starting on the 2nd of August. And to make it a social journey, affordable for most people and an adventure, we want to cover this distance by thumb – with hitch-hiking. In the end, we hitchhiked almost 28.000 km and were on the road for a bit more than a year (Below you can see our exact route).
We would’ve liked to hitchhike the whole way, but two times we decided to take a flight due to conflicts on the way. We decided to pass Pakistan because of its visa policy by taking a ferry to Dubai and then a flight to India from there. The second problematic point was the land border between India and Myanmar, which is always a lucky shot and incredibly hard to pass due to the countries’ relationship. Here, we decided to fly from India directly to Thailand and to explore South East Asia starting from Bangkok.
On our way, we got rides from 522 lovely drivers, whose hospitality and generosity made this incredible journey possible for us.
