My name is Nina and I am a bubbly, friendly, energetic and adventurous 19 year old, who recently graduated from an international high school in Berlin. I have dreamed of travelling the world during my gap year since I was 10 years old, so I am so excited to be doing exactly that with Spicyroad! Luckily, I am starting this crazy adventure with at least some experience, as I’ve been travelling between countries and continents my entire life with my family of 7. However, this journey with Spicyroad is the first one that I am doing that involves hitchhiking and backpacking so I am very interested to see how I cope with all-new travelling challenges. Why did I decide to join the project? Apart from the fact that it will be an amazing, daring roadtrip through about 20 countries? Apart from the fact that I will be tasting delicious foods and collecting the best recipes along the way? That’s easy. Ever since I first started high school, I have been involved in various volunteering and social justice initiatives – no matter which country I’d lived in! From football refereeing/coaching in Australia, kids’ face painting in Italy and speaking with young blind girls in India, to making Christmas care packages for the homeless in Canada, working at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardis Gras parade and working at a soup kitchen in Berlin. I have become evermore acutely aware of my privileges and therefore I actively seek to help those less fortunate than me in any way that I can. Moreover, with the recent influx of refugees into Europe and the rest of the world, it has become even more clear to me that I want to not only travel and go on fun adventures but also spend more time and energy to further help those in need. Therefore, joining and doing volunteer work with Spicyroad just seemed like the most perfect for me! I am really looking forward to all of our future endeavours and can’t wait to update everyone on everything that we do. Adventure awaits!
